It’s BLACK…it’s WHITE…

The weather has been so fickle in NYC lately. One day it’s beautiful, and then the next day
it gets gloomy. Urghh, I can’t stand this fickle weather!

I woke Sunday and was in one of those moods where I couldn’t decide what to wear, so I ended up just rockin black and white and kept it simple. Black and white combos are colors you can wear year round. It’s also the safest way to go when you have no idea what to wear.

YUMI KIM is little miss sunshine!

It was so beautiful in NYC this past Saturday. I decided to rock the Shayla Maxi Dress in the Daisy Floral print. I was so over the winter weather and wanted to wear something bright to celebrate spring. I was so surprised that I got so many compliments! I met up with some friends for brunch and they called me “Little Miss Sunshine!” How cute!

I rarely wear or work with the color YELLOW. For some reason, I can never get the right tone down. It’s either always too bright or just too much. This spring I experimented with yellow for the first time. At first I thought, “Wow, this might be crazy and bold for my girls.” When we previewed it at the show, it had mixed reviews. I was still iffy about it up until it arrived in stores a few weeks ago…. and then the reorders started trickling in. I was shocked and excited that my first yellow experiment turned out to be a huge hit! Check out my little miss sunshine outfit of the day…

I played with blowing up big floral prints and using YELLOW for the first time! At first I thought…”WOW, this might be a little too much”- but it turns out to be one of my bestsellers from this delivery!

YUMI KIM SPRING ‘09 -Delivery I

Spring ‘09 is my favorite and proudest collection to date. Spring has always been my favorite season to design, because I LOVE playing with bright colors and pretty florals. Who doesn’t LOVE color in their life? I really believe BRIGHT COLORS and FLOWERS always brightens everyone’s mood, especially in difficult times like this.

I know every designer always says they put a lot of time & effort into their designs, but for me, my Spring ‘09 collection is very special, because it’s the collection where I believe I’ve finally matured and evolved into my “look” and who I want the YUMI KIM girl to be.

I spent a lot more time on this collection than any past collection. When I designed it I was in a very happy place in my life where I started going out again, traveling for fun-not work, and enjoying the dating world in NYC. When you’re happy you tend to flock towards pretty colors and prints that makes you feel good. All of these things had an influence on my designs, because I wanted to make beautiful clothes that I would LOVE to wear every day, clothes that you can wear from day into night and never get tired of it.

Every print in this collection has gone through rounds and rounds of changes and dissection with me and my staff. If we didn’t gasp out of excitement in the end, then the print didn’t make it into the collection. This was my rule this past season. I wanted every piece in my Spring ‘09 collection to make the girl who’s wearing feel “OH, SO PRETTY!”
